Claire Zimmerman, ND is a newly practicing naturopathic physician and a recent graduate of Bastyr University. She currently practices at Fit Wellness Centers in Seattle, WA. Claire began studying Vitalism and Nature Cure with Paul Bergner at the North American Institute of Medical Herbalism before attending naturopathic school, this foundation shapes her view and commitment to our medicine. Claire served as the Philosophy Chair for the NMSA Bastyr chapter in her final year, and was instrumental in initiating the ongoing Philosophy Talks Series, which brings experienced doctors together with students to discuss naturopathic philosophy in clinical practice. Claire has a deep passion for the roots of this medicine, and has traveled several times to Bad Worishofen, Germany, the home of Father Sebastian Kneipp, to further study hydrotherapy and better understand our founding principles of healing. She has a long history of study in plant medicine, botany, ecology, sustainable food systems, and world medicines, all of which continue to shape how she views medicine and the naturopathic approach to wellness. Her work aims to bridge modern scientific medical knowledge with historical, philosophical roots to help inform naturopathic medical practice today. She hopes through this fellowship to continue to preserve critical knowledge from the experts in our field, and help make this information accessible to future doctors. She is deeply grateful to be the Philosophy Fellow, and for the opportunity to be involved in the pivotal project, The Foundations of Naturopathic Medicine.
